I was thrilled when I saw Powder Valley has started carrying this powder. It burns nearly as cleanly as Triple 7 but unlike 777 it lights as easily as black powder in flintlocks.

I was looking for Blackhorn 209 to shoot in a 45 cal. CVA. I found this Shooters World at Powder Valley and by the reviews it sounded like what I needed so I gave it a try. I went to their website and it called for 100 grain, my gun called for 120 grain. I went with what the powder called for,all by volume not weight. I’m shooting ELR 285 grain powerbelt bullets This was a new gun and a new scope on it, the scope was line bored and for once it was pretty much dead on at 100 yards. I have shot this gun and powder 15 times or more it has never failed to fire even after some wet weather. I have shot this gun 4 times in a row and it will load as easy on the 4th time as it did on the first. This powder is easy to clean up after shooting, I’m 74 years old and have been shooting black powder for a long time, I’ts my favorite hunting rifle I use it all season. Of all the black powder I’v shot this is the best by far, it shoots true cleans easy. I’F your’er looking for black powder give this a try.

For those that load black powder for CAS. Like 45 colt. 44-40, 12 ga magtech. This stuff is great. Burns clean (er). Measures good, cleans up easier. Does not corrode the brass as fast as true black. I like it and it’s now my go to powder for black powder

Love this stuff! Ignites easily, can use in a flintlock, cleans up easily, doesn’t leave a crud ring, just wish I could find it. If you see it, buy it!

Recently I saw good reviews for the Shooter’s World blackpowder substitute. I ded not like it. Here is why: The first two shots are accurate without cleaning. After repeated shooting, and light cleaning between shots, I started getting hangfires and even a misfire. I did some experimenting. I laid out identical lines of Goex FF, Porodex P, and Shooters World (SW). The FF and SW burned at the same rate and had similar amount of residue. The Pyro slower but cleaner. I discovered something mind-blowing, though. The SW residue was WET with a greasy feel. The residue did not air-dry with a fan. Turns out the wet residue was fowling my powder, causing the hangfires. Swabbing with a dry patch didn’t help. The only thing that would stop the hangfires was a sink cleaning a a good drying. I had an idea: since this stuff makes its own bullet lubricant, I tried five shots without any bullet lube. I got a tight group, but the sixth was a hangfire and flyer. Hangfires and poor accuracy afterwards. I will not buy the Shooter’s World blackpowder substitute again. I like real blackpowder best at a similar price.

Hands down the best Black Powder substitute, no needs to add grits or cream of wheat as a case filler, safe to shoot with space. Clean burning, minor residue on barrel. Loading .38 rifle and pistol plus shot gun hulls for Frontier Cartridge Category.
